SUMMARY:TOGETHER
DESCRIPTION:Together is a mixed media art exhibition featuring artwork from ten Minnesota artist families of diverse ages and family structures who have created individual and communal work for the exhibition. Artists Emmett and Kit Ramstad conceived this project to elevate children’s artwork and provide a space for parent artists to support each other as they fulfill the roles of parents and artists while raising a new generation of makers. Together uplifts mixed generational creativity by showcasing artists who have contributed hugely to Minnesota’s artistic community and their children who are integral influences to their practice. \n\n\n\n\nPARTICIPATING ARTISTS: \nSayge Carroll\, Morgan Laramy; Preston Drum\, Elvis and Leroy Drum; Isa Gagarin\, Rae Gordon; Pao Her\, Vince and Kailee Yang; Amanda Lovelee\, Walden Waites; Avigail Manneberg\, Kaiah and Micah Manneberg-Tompkins; Emmett Ramstad\, Kit Aizura Ramstad; Anna Marie Shogren\, Wally Glenn-Shogren; Aki Shibata\, Atom Shibata Pliner and Yukiko Shibata Colburn; Jonathan Thunder\,  Mino Hart Thunder

SUMMARY:Harvey Fierstein’s “TORCH SONG”
DESCRIPTION:Arnold Beckoff is a drag queen in New York City. What does he want in life? Happiness! A husband\, a child\, and respect from his Jewish mother! Taking place in the 1970/80s\, the award-winning comedy Torch Song Trilogy helped set the stage for the emergence of LGBTQIA+ rights and the fight for human dignity. Updated by the playwright in 2017\, with tenderness and great humor\, Torch Song reminds us how fragile those rights remain.\n\n\n       May 4 – 19\, 2024 \n\nTuesday\, 1 p.m.\, $26\nWednesdays\, 7:30 p.m.\, $27\nThursdays\, 7:30 p.m.\, $27\nSaturdays\, 8 p.m.\, $40\nSundays\, 1 p.m.\, $33\nSundays\, 7 p.m.\, $26\nStudent and Artist Rush: all performances $15

SUMMARY:Glennda and Friends: Queer Videos from the '90s at the Walker Art Center
DESCRIPTION:In 1990s Manhattan\, a dynamic drag queen duo\, Brenda Sexual and Glennda Orgasm\, produced and cohosted a popular underground public access cable series The Brenda and Glennda Show. Taking drag out of the nightclubs and into the streets\, their show boldly mixed political activism with humor\, art\, and visibility. In 1993\, the show became Glennda and Friends\, hosted by Glenn Belverio\, who expanded the “post-queer” talk show format to feature provocative costars such as queer filmmaker Bruce LaBruce\, transgressive author Bruce Benderson\, performance artist Vaginal Davis\, and guerrilla scholar Camille Paglia. Both shows chronicled the radical queer and drag scenes and activism that grew out of the first years of the AIDS pandemic\, creating an inspiring and iconoclastic archive for today. 1991–1994\, US\, digital\, 72 min. \nA Q&A with Glenn Belverio and Jon Davies follows the screening. \nThe program includes the following episodes:\nSeize Control of the Taj Mahal\, 1991\, US\, digital\, 14 min.\nOn the Campaign Trail with Joan Jett Blakk\, 1992\, US\, digital\, 29 min.\nGlennda and Bruce Do Times Square\, 1994\, US\, digital\, 29 min.
