SUMMARY:To Have and To Hold: How LGBTQ+ Families Shaped the Movement for Marriage Equality
DESCRIPTION:This June marks the 10th anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges\, the Supreme Court decision that granted marriage equality nationwide. How did LGBTQ+ families help shape this historical moment — and what can we learn from that victory to inform the work ahead? \nJoin Family Equality\, Jim Obergefell\, and a panel of policy experts and outspoken change-makers for a special virtual panel highlighting the impact of LGBTQ+ family voices in the movement for marriage equality. Together\, we’ll discuss the state of marriage equality ten years later\, the power of storytelling\, and the role that everyday LGBTQ+ families played—and can continue to play—in making history. \nOur panel includes: \n\nFrankie Frankeny\, Creator/Director of the JustMarried project\nEmily Hecht-McGowan\, Family Equality’s former Chief Policy Officer (2010 – 2017)\nJim Obergefell\, Family Equality board member and lead plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges\nLuce M. Remy\, Family Equality’s Vice President of Public Policy\nKinsey Woodson\, Outspoken changemaker and individual named in Family Equality’s Voices of Children amicus brief\n\nAll are invited to attend this free event\, although registration is required.
