SUMMARY:Queer Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group
DESCRIPTION:GayAA is a weekly group to read and discuss the twelve-step method of chemical dependency recovery using the Plain Language Big Book. The Plain Language Big Book is a version of the original Alcoholics Anonymous text that has been adapted to be more accessible and inclusive. It uses plain modern language and does not use potentially outdated or exclusionary terms. This adaptation was developed as an alternative to the original 1938 text for those who may have struggled with or felt marginalized by the language. The meeting is a space for queer and transgender people specifically. It is an Alcoholics Anonymous group\, so the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. This group specifically encourages attendance by queer and transgender addicts as Alcoholics Anonymous has a long tradition of gender-specific groups facilitating discussion at the intersection of gender and addiction. Transgender and queer people like men and women need a safe space to get sober. Please be respectful of that reality when attending this group. The group is mindful of its role in fostering inclusion\, where everyone’s voice is heard and respected\, regardless of their background.

SUMMARY:BiblioFemmes Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Details\n\n\nPlease read “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler in preparation for this meeting. \nThere will be someone to facilitate the meeting\, but we invite everyone who attends to come up with at least one question\, comment\, or just a favorite passage that they want to talk about during book club. \nYou are not required to finish the book to attend\, but you are required to be okay with spoilers if you don’t finish. \nMeetup caps attendance at 10 people\, but we can accommodate more. When RSVPing\, please comment with your intention to come if the event is currently listed as full. \nIf we approach venue capacity we will close RSVPs. \nQuatrefoil opens right at 7\, so we’ll aim to start the meeting closer to 7:15 to give folks time to settle in. \nThere is a small parking lot in the back of the building that is open to patrons as space is available. Food and drink are allowed\, so feel free to bring something for yourself or to share! \n\nBiblioFemmes is a group of queer femmes who love books. We have a monthly book club at Quatrefoil and other events throughout the month\, including pottery making\, game nights\, social hours\, and more. We meet regularly with the express intention of creating a community\, so if you are looking for a book club AND some new friends\, we might be the right fit for you. \nEveryone who describes themselves as a femme (small doses count) and who has done the reading is welcome to attend a book club (RSVPs appreciated but not required). If you are interested in the group\, but want to meet without homework\, please reach out to the email address listed below and we’ll add you to our Discord server and mailing list. \nContact: bibliofemmes.mn@gmail.com \n

SUMMARY:Trans Names are Trans Power! A free webinar on the name-choosing journey
DESCRIPTION:Join Denise! Denise! Ph.D. for a free webinar on trans\, non-binary\, agender\, and genderfluid people’s experiences choosing new names (or not!). They will review patterns that emerged from asking over 500 trans people about whether\, why\, and how they changed their given names. This talk will address names and what they say about our identities – it’s not just about gender! – and dominant naming conventions as sites of power and control\, belonging and disavowal\, and uniqueness and connection through an intersectional lens. Denise will offer advice to fellow trans name-changers on setting individual rules for when\, who\, how\, why\, when\, and where or what contexts we will change our given names as an act of trans self-determination\, rooted in collective trans culture\, kinship\, and history. Note: Denise is not a lawyer and will not be able to provide advice on the legal name change process. Additional name-choosing and -changing resources: https://thehouseofdenise.com/transnames/
