SUMMARY:Patrick's Cabaret - Pride Celebration
DESCRIPTION:June is traditionally Pride Month in the Twin Cities\, and there is arguably no venue in Minnesota more intimately associated with the LGBTQIA+ community than Patrick’s Cabaret\, so to celebrate the Stonewall Riot in New York City back in 1969\, Patrick presents an Old School Pride Celebration\, inviting some folks who have been around for more than a few decades\, and with deep connections to this community\, to join him in this show: Kim Hines\, T Mychael Rambo\, Carolyn Holbrook and Kevin Kortan. \nAn important part of celebrating Pride is remembering\, especially remembering members of our community that we have lost. Carolyn Holbrook will read from Earth Angels\, an essay covering many topics\, including the night she hit a pedestrian\, during the time that Ronnie\, her gay brother\, was slowly dying. \nFrom a collection of her stories called the “Things I Learned in Church\,” Kim Hines shares the comically devious piece “I Got a Robe.” While a member of the fictitious Battlefield for the Lord AME Church\, Kim notices that the antics of certain members of the congregation prove to hold valuable life lessons. T. Mychael Rambo will help us celebrate Pride this year with song and words of inspiration. \nKevin Kortan and Patrick Scully will share their dance\, Blankets of Love\, based on positions they find themselves in as they cuddle and sleep together. \nWhen: Saturday June 26\, 2021\, 7:30 pm Mpls. Time. \nWhere: online via zoom details all at: https://linktr.ee/PatrickScully \nCost: $15. Payment by the “pay-what-you-can honor system”\, Pay with Venmo\, PayPal or by check. Go to http://patrickscully.org/payment.htm

SUMMARY:Movie Night in the Park @ St. Paul Como East Pavilion - Kiki
DESCRIPTION:Bring along a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy a starlit night of fun with friends and family! Movies in the Parks provides a wide range of outdoor films at parks and recreation centers around Saint Paul. Movies in the Parks events are free and open to the public. Movies typically begin at dusk\, but some may start earlier or later. Some offer pre-show activities. Movies are weather dependent and subject to change without notice. All children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.\nThe month of June\, holding both Pride and Juneteenth\, is a beautiful example of the intersectionality within our community.\nWe are excited to highlight St. Paul Parks and Recreation’s showing of the film Kiki at 9pm to center one of many Black queer experiences.

SUMMARY:Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus’ Pride Concert: TCGMC Sings Back
DESCRIPTION:Wrapping up TCGMC’s 40th season with a virtual concert featuring music from the silver screen!\nFrom 1934 to 1968\, any “homosexual portrayal” was strictly forbidden in American films via the Motion Picture Production Code\, popularly known as the Hays Code. But no one can deny that queer culture existed and thrived in old Hollywood\, albeit primarily underground. 1975 brought the full-on\, in-your-face\, intersection of queer characters\, movies\, and music with the cult classic\, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In 1995 two straight Hollywood leading men\, Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes\, portrayed journeying drag queens in To Wong Foo\, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Finally\, even Disney has included a variety of characters in their popular movies who have\, while not explicitly stated\, been interpreted as being queer. \nOver the past year\, many of us have relied on the magical world of cinema from our couches\, and the film industry has served as an escape. If we’re lucky\, and this seems to be most common in movies featuring queer actors and characters\, the movie leaves us with a glorious memento: the music! \nTCGMC Sings Back\, the concert\, which will premiere on the TCGMC YouTube page for FREE on June 18 at 7pm\, celebrates the music of the silver screen. This third and final concert in TCGMC’s 40th season features some of the greatest cinematic hits from movies such as An American Tail\, CAMP\, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory\, and Meet Me in St. Louis. These admired songs are woven together with the camp and humor TCGMC audience members have come to know and love! \nConcert available for FREE at: www.youtube.com/twincitiesgaymenschorus

SUMMARY:Movie Night in the Park @ MIA - Wig + Other Voices
DESCRIPTION:Mia’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Staff Resource Group is teaming up with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board for their summer Movie in the Park series. On Thursday\, June 17th starting at 8pm\, meet in Washburn Fair Oaks park for a screening of Wig (dir. Moukarbel\, 2019)\, accompanied by the short film “Other Voices” (dir. S. Brown). \nMovies will start at dusk. Please bring your own seating. Porta Potties will be available\, as the museum will be closed. \n\nThe Line Up\n\n\nOther Voices (dir. Sweatmother)\nRuntime: 5min52 \nThrough a series of Other Voices\, trans and gender non-conforming people express their experiences through art and conversation. \nSweatmother is a latinx trans artist and filmmaker based in London. They use experimental techniques and hybrid documentary filmmaking in collaboration with non-professional actors to create counter-narratives from within their own communities and subcultures. \nTheir work reclaims the often misplaced voice\, body and gaze by repurposing femme and gender non-conforming identities in spaces where objectification is removed\, and the agency and difference in the otherness is celebrated. \n\n\nWig (dir. Moukarbel)\nRuntime: 1h 29m \n\nSpotlighting the art of drag\, and centered on the New York staple Wigstock\, Wig showcases the personalities and performances that inform the ways we understand queerness\, art and identity today. \nFor almost 20 years\, Wigstock was the annual drag festival that glamorously signaled the end of summer for the New York’s gay community Late one night in 1984\, Lady Bunny and a few friends drunkenly wandered from the Pyramid Club in the East Village to Tompkins Square Park and staged an impromptu drag show in the bandshell. This would soon become an annual drag bacchanal\, which lasted until 2001. In 2018\, Lady Bunny resurrected the festival\, bringing together legendary queens with some of the new children of drag\, creating one of the largest drag performances ever staged. \nWig explores the origins and the influence of the historic festival through rich archival footage\, and provides a look into the contemporary drag movement for which the festival served as a foundation. It’s a celebration of New York drag culture\, and the personalities and performances that contribute to the ways we understand queerness\, art\, and identity\, today. Wig features Lady Bunny\, Charlene Incarnate\, Flotilla DeBarge\, Kevin Aviance\, Neil Patrick Harris\, Willam\, Linda Simpson\, Naomi Smalls\, Tabboo!
