SUMMARY:Trans Names are Trans Power! A free webinar on the name-choosing journey
DESCRIPTION:Join Denise! Denise! Ph.D. for a free webinar on trans\, non-binary\, agender\, and genderfluid people’s experiences choosing new names (or not!). They will review patterns that emerged from asking over 500 trans people about whether\, why\, and how they changed their given names. This talk will address names and what they say about our identities – it’s not just about gender! – and dominant naming conventions as sites of power and control\, belonging and disavowal\, and uniqueness and connection through an intersectional lens. Denise will offer advice to fellow trans name-changers on setting individual rules for when\, who\, how\, why\, when\, and where or what contexts we will change our given names as an act of trans self-determination\, rooted in collective trans culture\, kinship\, and history. Note: Denise is not a lawyer and will not be able to provide advice on the legal name change process. Additional name-choosing and -changing resources: https://thehouseofdenise.com/transnames/

SUMMARY:Queer Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group
DESCRIPTION:GayAA is a weekly group to read and discuss the twelve-step method of chemical dependency recovery using the Plain Language Big Book. The Plain Language Big Book is a version of the original Alcoholics Anonymous text that has been adapted to be more accessible and inclusive. It uses plain modern language and does not use potentially outdated or exclusionary terms. This adaptation was developed as an alternative to the original 1938 text for those who may have struggled with or felt marginalized by the language. The meeting is a space for queer and transgender people specifically. It is an Alcoholics Anonymous group\, so the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. This group specifically encourages attendance by queer and transgender addicts as Alcoholics Anonymous has a long tradition of gender-specific groups facilitating discussion at the intersection of gender and addiction. Transgender and queer people like men and women need a safe space to get sober. Please be respectful of that reality when attending this group. The group is mindful of its role in fostering inclusion\, where everyone’s voice is heard and respected\, regardless of their background.

SUMMARY:A Wish To Rage: Lying To My Psych [Solo Exhibition Opening]
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the First Solo Exhibition at the PCAC!  \nWe are thrilled to kick off our 2025 Artist in Residence solo exhibition series with Dobbs DeCorsey! \nDate: April 4th\nTime: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM\nLocation: Pride Cultural Arts Center (PCAC)\nAddress: 1201 Harmon Pl (Entrance on 12th Ave S between Harmon & Yale)\nThis event is free and open to all—don’t miss it! \nIn his gallery titled\, ‘A Wish To Rage: Lying To My Psych’ artist\, Dobbs DeCorsey claims that in the face of significant injustice\, people deserve to have the opportunity to feel and express all of their feelings\, specifically rage. Rage can come in many forms\, however\, as a disabled person he worries about expressing his rage in spaces out of the fear of coming off as “unstable” or “crazy”. He always feels very conscious about his responses during GADs and PHQs at doctors offices out of the additional fear of institutionalization. In essence\, the collection will explore his feelings and relationship to rage in the context of being neurodiverse. He also wants to pose that when he rages\, he always rages with joy in his fists and love in his heart. The pieces will draw on imagery of functional pottery\, volcanoes and pop/camp. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Moon Palace Queer Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Event by Moon Palace Books \nPublic  ·  Join us for Queer Book Club every second Wednesday from 7-8pm at Quatrefoil Library\, 1220 East Lake Street\, Minneapolis\, MN 55407! (Please note that in the summer we will only meet at Quatrefoil if it rains. Otherwise we will meet at Brackett Park.) \nQueer Book Club April \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday Apr 9th\, 2025\n\n\n7:00 PM – 8:00 PM\n\n\n\nQuatrefoil Library\, 1220 East Lake Street\, Minneapolis\, MN 55407\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for Queer Book Club on Wednesday\, April 9th\, at 7:00pm at Quatrefoil Library\, 1220 East Lake Street\, Minneapolis\, MN 55407. We’ll be discussing Blood Orange by Mx. Yaffa. Anyone is welcome to join whether you’ve read the whole book or just skimmed a few pages. We meet the second Wednesdays of every month! \n“Blood Orange” is a highly emotional\, important and timely poetry collection by Mx. Yaffa (They/She)\, a trans Muslim displaced Indigenous Palestinian. Their writings probe the yearning for home\, belonging\, mental health\, queerness\, transness\, and other dimensions of marginalization while nurturing dreams of utopia against the background of ongoing displacement and genocide of indigenous Palestinians. \nThis highly charged and cathartic body of work confronts the anguish and loss inflicted by genocide but also embraces a vision of a world free of it. The poems within “Blood Orange” were a means of working through and processing the grief caused by recent events and serve as an act of protest and defiance against settler colonialism as a whole.
