SUMMARY:"As Above\, So Below" Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:“As Above\, So Below” by Morgan LaCasse (@morguedesign) opens at the Pride Cultural Arts Center on October 10th\, 5-8pm. \n“As above\, so below” is a concept that drives many mystical traditions\, including tarot and astrology: the idea that there’s a connection between the higher universe and our small\, human lives below. Understanding one can lead to insights about the other. But engaging with divination doesn’t require spirituality or knowledge about traditions. The major themes and symbols in tarot\, standardized by the Rider-Waite-Smith Deck\, represent universal feelings\, experiences\, and relationships that have inspired thousands of tarot deck illustration projects\, including one by Morgue. This gallery marks the halfway point of their project\, with ~40 oversized prints that re-interpret the RWS cards through the lens of pop culture and video games to create a whimsical interpretation of the classic archetypes. \nThis Arts & Culture Vibrant Storefronts is funded\, in part\, by the City of Minneapolis Arts & Cultural Affairs Department.

SUMMARY:Poetry Reading in Queer Conversation with Emily Dickinson with Rosa Lane
DESCRIPTION:Rosa Lane\, queer poet\, will read from her 4th poetry collection\, Called Back\, a title memorializing the last two words Emily Dickinson wrote\, winner of the 2025 Maine Literary Poetry Book Award. Her poems give voice to the LGBTQ+ dimension of one of America’s greatest poets\, which draws from most recent research by Dickinson scholars. Pulitzer finalist Henri Cole had this to say about Called Back: “What marvelous\, feral\, eccentric\, sweetly erotic poems [that]…illuminate–with electrifying language –the shadows of human love.” [www.rosalane.com]. Stephen Haven will join Rosa and read from his latest work\, The Flight from Meaning\, which contains meditations on American History\, on the nature of religion in our time\, and on racism and its legacy in the post-Civil Rights era. T. R. Hummer in praise of Stephen’s work had this to say: “Stephen is a poet of incisive discipline deployed in the service of a passionate\, humanistic ethos.” [www.stephenhaven.com]
