SUMMARY:Shared Selves: Final Exhibition of the Artist-in-Residence Cohort
DESCRIPTION:“Shared Selves” marks the culminating showcase of our current Artist-in-Residence cohort—a celebration of collective creativity\, mutual witnessing\, and the power of community-rooted art. Throughout their residency\, each artist has explored new dimensions of their practice while building meaningful connections with one another. This final exhibition brings those journeys into conversation.\n\nFor this special closing show\, each artist was invited to turn their creative attention toward a fellow cohort member. Through a process of interview\, reflection\, and artistic interpretation\, they created an original portrait that reveals not only the subject—but the relationship\, resonance\, and shared space between artists These portraits will be unveiled for the first time at the exhibition opening.\nAlongside these collaborative works\, each artist will present the final pieces developed during their residency. Together\, these works trace the evolution of their artistic voices and the shared learning that shaped their time in residence.\n\n“Shared Selves” is both an ending and an opening: a testament to what becomes possible when queer artists create together\, see one another fully\, and choose to share themselves with the world.\n\nLight refreshment will be served.\nFree street parking.

SUMMARY:Queer and Disabled: An LGBTQIA+ Online Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Queerness and Disability carry a lot of overlap — both invite us into the work of owning our unique identity\, fighting normative assumptions\, and advocating for true inclusivity in both personal and public spaces. \nAt this online community listening session we’ll explore the joys and challenges of being both disabled and queer. We’ll discuss our hopes and dreams for the queer disability community\, and even talk about accessibility and barriers in LGBTQIA+ organizing — and how we’d like to see things change. \nCome to feel heard and seen\, to connect with others\, and to envision a better future for queer disabled Minnesotans! \nThis event is for anyone who self identifies as both LGBTQIA+ and also as disabled (i.e. anyone with physical\, sensory\, intellectual\, or mental/psychological disabilities — including folks with chronic health issues and those who are neurodivergent!).

You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine\, crochet hooks\, or knitting needles. \n• Seating: I have 16 chairs plus sewing stations. Please bring a lawn chair if you can\, just in case we have a big turnout! \nFood & Comfort \nI’ll be serving Pulled Pork and Mac & Cheese. If you’d like to bring a dish or snack to share\, feel free\, but please just come as you are. I have a fridge\, microwave\, and air fryer on-site. \nThe Donation Drive \nI’ll be using the shop van to drive all items to the Pride Cultural Arts Center on Monday. Per their current needs\, we are collecting: \n• Household Items: Dish soap\, sponges\, toilet paper\, paper towels. \n• Personal Care: Soap\, shampoo\, deodorant\, laundry soap. \n• Family & Pets: Diapers\, baby wipes\, pet food\, and treats. \n• Warmth: Blankets (we will also be making these!). \nWhy Newport? I want to provide a local\, comfortable spot for the South and East Metro to contribute. If you want to help but don’t want to drive into the city right now\, drop your donations here and I’ll handle the delivery to Harmon Pl for you. \nLet’s turn this heavy week into something warm. SUMMARY:Knitters Against ICE
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Knitters Against ICE\, a group for knitters (crocheters\, crafters\, or those who just wanting to hang out with us) who are passionate about standing up against inhumane immigration policies. Let’s meet every week at the Global Market in Midtown to support our global restaurant owners. Buy lunch\, and knit for a bit. Let’s use our love of crafting to make a statement and support those affected by unjust practices. This group is a safe space for everyone to come together. Join us in saying NO to bad politics and YES to compassion and inclusivity. Saturdays at the Center Court from noon – 2:00. I’m open to meeting at other times and places. Twin Cities Pride has asked us especially to knit/crochet hats and mittens to donate.
