Queer Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group

GayAA is a weekly group to read and discuss the twelve-step method of chemical dependency recovery using the Plain Language Big Book. The Plain Language Big Book is a version of the original Alcoholics Anonymous text that has been adapted to be more accessible and inclusive. It uses plain modern language and does not use potentially outdated or exclusionary terms. This adaptation was developed as an alternative to the original 1938 text for those who may have struggled with or felt marginalized by the language. The meeting is a space for queer and transgender people specifically. It is an Alcoholics Anonymous group, so the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. This group specifically encourages attendance by queer and transgender addicts as Alcoholics Anonymous has a long tradition of gender-specific groups facilitating discussion at the intersection of gender and addiction. Transgender and queer people like men and women need a safe space to get sober. Please be respectful of that reality when attending this group. The group is mindful of its role in fostering inclusion, where everyone’s voice is heard and respected, regardless of their background.
