Join Denise! Denise! Ph.D. for a free webinar on trans, non-binary, agender, and genderfluid people’s experiences choosing new names (or not!). They will review patterns that emerged from asking over 500 trans people about whether, why, and how they changed their given names. This talk will address names and what they say about our identities – it’s not just about gender! – and dominant naming conventions as sites of power and control, belonging and disavowal, and uniqueness and connection through an intersectional lens. Denise will offer advice to fellow trans name-changers on setting individual rules for when, who, how, why, when, and where or what contexts we will change our given names as an act of trans self-determination, rooted in collective trans culture, kinship, and history.
